Otherwise, it's not fair to compare because of all the variables which you can't control. CAT5e or CAT6 (or CAT6a) cable should probably be fine for home use. With a duplex mismatch you would have to check to see if the NIC on the device is set to manual or auto and if it is full or half and you would need to make sure that the switch port matches the settings of the device.
